My name is Bryce Messer and I have come a long way from my hometown of Atlanta, Georgia to attend  OU in order to double major in Biology and Paleontology. I’ve decided to major in these fields due to my everlasting love of animals, dinosaurs and other prehistoric life forms. This also plays into why I have chosen to become a volunteer in the Herpetology collection, to be more specific after acquiring several reptile species as pets I had decided that I wanted to focus my energy about learning more about reptiles as a whole. But my time at the museum is no the first way I’ve been able to put my passion to use, for 4 years I have been a Volunteer at Zoo Atlanta; as a volunteer I was tasked with educating guests, assisting the zookeepers, and staffing special events at the zoo and I spent another 2 years concurrently working at the Georgia Aquarium doing similar tasks. Other than my volunteering at the museum and work at the zoo and aquarium, over my first two years at OU I have become involved with several organizations including the OU Pick & Hammer club, Jurassic Journeyers, and the greek organization Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc. I am also employed as an undergraduate researcher under a professor in the geochemistry department where I study copper and fossilized pollen concentrations in ancient rock/soil samples. I have become an Eagle Scout as of May 2018. During my tenure as a scout Within my troop I have worked in various roles of responsibility from being the Librarian, Bugler, Troop Guide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Wilderness Guia, and finally Senior Patrol Leader. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors camping, hunting, and fishing along with playing video games, watching anime, and hanging out with friends. In regards to my goals during my college career I hope to graduate with honors here at the University of Oklahoma as well as partake in several study abroad sessions. After graduation I plan on getting my PHD in either Paleontology or Biology, this is to help me become a Paleo-Biologist.
